The LA Lakers have signed Brazilian point guard Marcelo Huertas to a one year deal. I watched one highlight video of him on YouTube and instantly fell in love with his skill set. Huertas played last season with FC Barcelona in the Euroleague. He’s a veteran player who can preform well in a pick-and-roll set. His passing ability is what really caught my attention, the guy has a laser. He also has the ability to knock down shots from beyond the arc, shooting 36.5% from three last year. His career averages are 8 points and 3.8 assists per game. I really hope the Lakers keep this guy beyond training camp. He can easily run their offense off the bench and can serve as a more than solid backup to rookie point guard D’Angelo Russell. With both Huertas and Russell’s passing skills, we might see some exciting plays from the Lakers this season. I’m really hoping Huertas is wearing purple and gold on opening night.
