Not surprised Sam Dekker declared for the NBA draft. He had a great season for Wisconsin helping them get to the NCAA championship game. Personally, I think another season with the Badgers could have benefitted him, but his performance this year did put him into the draft conversation. Dekker has a lot to offer and also has a lot to develop on. He’s versatile on both ends of the floor and has great athleticism. Standing at 6-9 he could be a great swing man in the league. He most definitely has the potential to be a role player, possible sixth man, but there are some aspects of his game he needs to work on. First off, Dekker needs to work on his shooting consistency. He has proved he can hit shots from the perimeter but we have seen him have both hot and cold streaks from the field. Dekker can score in several different ways which makes him a coveted prospect. I believe if he improves his ability to create his own shot even more that he will draw more attention. Lastly, Dekker needs to put on some muscle to compete in the NBA. Getting stronger will only increase his potential to be a talented wingman. I see a little Gordon Hayward in Dekker. He could use a year or two to develop before his potential is fully reached, but there’s a future for Dekker on an NBA team as a key contributer off the bench. I predict Dekker to get drafted in the mid-first round to early second round.
